Sarah was teaching French at East Aurora Hight School, and Joe was a band director there. Their students thought they'd be a great match. “It became a running joke the entire school year," Sarah said, "but I never saw him because our school is so big.” That changed when Sarah helped chaperone a band trip to Disney World. They ended up on the same bus, and an immediate friendship took root. Later, on a trip with friends to Cuba in 2017, their romance began to bloom, and the relationship blossomed from there.
Joe ultimately proposed, after dinner and dessert, at a condo magically transformed -- thanks to both sets of parents -- with thousands of rose petals, candles, 100 long-stem roses, and a garland of photos chronicling their relationship. Sarah said, "Yes," as soon as he got down on one knee, and they married in June 2019 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Naperville. “Our pastor, wrote this incredible sermon about how being in love and being in a marriage is being both a teacher and a student," said Sarah.
Their reception at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton included a surprise patio cocktail hour, romantic lantern style centerpieces, and fantastic live music by the Blue Water Kings. "They blew it out of the water," said Joe. For their honeymoon, this sweet couple enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise with stops in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Malta. What an adventure! And, it all started with a high school band trip, and perhaps a little student match-making, too. Thank you Sarah and Joe for letting us be a part of your wonderful story.
